About Me

Welcome! My name is Amber Vanderslice and I've started this blog as an adventure in capturing the first 100 days on the "toughest job in the world"...being a stay-at-home parent! My last day as a working mom in the professional corporate environment here in Charlotte, NC came to an end last week. It was bittersweet and I shed some tears leaving some wonderful people I have been privileged to spend several years with. But, my husband and I came to the conclusion that no paycheck can replace the wealth of investing time, love and energy into our children. We were blessed to have an amazing daycare for the past two years with teachers who poured love into our children unconditionally. They really were a huge encouragement to me while I sat in a cubicle putting out fires (sometimes literally) as an Assistant Property Manager for a retail commercial real estate company, assisting on over 40 properties in 4 states. My duties as a manager, I feel, have helped me in some part to be prepared for managing a household. (With fingers crossed, I HOPE anyways!)

So here I am about to embark on a journey that will no doubt reap rewards for our family, and hopefully prune some vines along the way.

I invite you to join with me if you are at all curious about the lives of stay-at-home parents, especially here in the dollar-driven United States of America where people are praised for their social status rather than their spiritual well-being, are valued for their clothes and shoes rather than their integrity, and where modern American women feel the pressure to work their way up the corporate ladder because our culture has ingrained a sense of inferiority for those at home raising children.

This blog is intended to be raw and rambunctious, full of real-life scenarios with babies and toddlers, exasperating dilemmas, dirty diapers, spit-up rags, obedience-teaching, discipline-approaching, patience-enduring outlet for other potential stay-at-homers, full-time employed parents and other moms like me who have no idea what to expect!

The most important part of our family is Jesus Christ, and we seek to honor Him through our actions and our decisions. Matthew 22:37, "Jesus replied, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind."

 

Fun Facts:

We have been married 5 years.

Tyler & I met in West Palm Beach, FL in 2003 while we were both in college.

I've lived in 9 cities in 7 states.

I play violin professionally.

Tyler is an avid runner. I hate running with a passion.

I've traveled to 13 countries, 6 of those with Tyler.

I like Pinterest but it consumes too much time!
